Chandelier Cleaning, Repair, Restoration and Maintenance

Chandeliers and light fixtures are beautiful and the showstopper of any room, but they require regular maintenance to retain their natural beauty. Over time, these fixtures are prone to corrosion and dirt and need to be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis – we recommend at least once a year. These beautiful light fixtures are also prone to damage when caught in a draft or accidently hit with an object such as a champagne cork which can cause tangles or a breakage. To keep your light fixture looking its absolute best, a regular clean and maintenance process is required.
At The Chandelier Cleaning Company, we welcome the opportunity to maintain the beauty of chandeliers and light fixtures by providing a regular cleaning service or to transform neglected and unloved lights back to their former glory. We have been cleaning, repairing, and restoring bespoke lighting for many years and our experiences has given us the chance to work on a vast variety of chandeliers, bespoke lighting, wall sconces and lanterns. Whether it is cleaning, or repairing, or replacing a broken glass arm, crystal droplets, a glass pane, to repairing ornate brass, rest assured that we have the experience to bring your lighting back to its original stunning condition.
Chandelier Cleaning and Maintenance
Chandeliers and light fixtures need to be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. The most effective way to clean a chandelier is with a chandelier cleaning solution. This solution is a blend of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol that works well in removing dirt and debris without causing any irreparable damage to a chandelier’s frame, links, and components.
The start of the cleaning process of a light fixture involves dismantling the light by stripping all removeable parts such as the bulbs, candle sleeves, cups, sways, droplets, crystals and bottom bowl. Apart from the bulbs, all removeable components are hand-washed using an eco-friendly detergent, dried, cleaned with the chandelier cleaning solution and polished until they sparkle.
Before working on the frame, all cobwebs are removed from the ceiling and surrounding area.
Using a soft-bristle brush, all dirt and debris is removed from the chain, frame, column, arms and remaining components of the light fixture.
A chandelier cleaning cloth is used in conjunction with the chandelier cleaning solution to clean the frame and every part of the remaining light, then finished off with a polish.
During this process, this is the perfect opportunity to repair a light that has sustained any minor damage over time. Replacing any crystals, links and re-pin if necessary.
Finally, once the frame has been thoroughly cleaned and polished, the light is dressed with the components that have been hand-washed and polished and voila! The chandelier or light fixture now looks amazing!
We recommend at this final stage to replace the bulbs with eco-friendly LED light bulbs which are good for the environment as they use much less energy to run and will save you money!
The Chandelier Cleaning Company provides a wide variety of repairing and restoration services to bring your damaged or neglected light fixture back to its fabulous original condition. Dependent upon the level of repairs and restoration required to your chandelier or light fixture, we usually provide this service in our workshop or on-site for minor repairs.

To repair and restore your light fixture at our workshop, we will securely disconnect, replace your light with a basic pendant, package, and transport your light from your residence to our workshop. The professional repair and restoration will take place, then once completed, we will return and rehang your light.
On-site only suits minor repairs, however, if an on-site repair is not possible and upon your agreement, we will dismantle, package and securely transport the light fixture to our workshop to repair, deliver and rehang in your residence.
We have a large amount of antique glass and crystals in stock can replace any missing or damaged items as close to the original as possible. However, if we do have a suitable replacement, then it is sometimes possible to remake the item in its original form and this is something we can arrange for you.
Re-pinning
As part of the restoration process, we can also fully re-pin the whole chandelier in the old-style process of pinning. This will result in the crystals and droplets to hang in the way it was originally intended. It is a more labour-intensive method, but the results are well worth the effort! It also means that afterwards, the cleaning and maintenance of the chandelier becomes more manageable due to the increased stability of the strings, swags and crystals which are less likely to break and fall apart.
Refinish the Fixture
Refinishing a chandelier or light fixture is a fantastic way to restore the beauty of your light, or, if you redecorate and would like your light fixture to match the new decor, or if you just fancy a change.
This is a process that can use a variety of different finishes, including distressing, antiquing, painting, and clear coating. Distressing is a process where you remove the shine from your chandelier and add old-looking marks to make it look antique.
Re-wiring and Cleaning
It would be a shame to allow a beautiful antique light fitting to sit in a box or storage because it has not been electrified. A full wiring service will involve the packaging and collection of your light to be securely transported and brought back to our workshop. It will be professionally wired, repaired if necessary, returned and, if required, fitted in the room of your choice.
All our services are custom to suit the needs of our clients. Do give us a call on 0330 320 869 or email info@thechandeliercleaningcompany.co.uk and we can advise on the correct service to bring the original beauty back to your light fixture.
